22 mag or 17 hrm
I am considering buying a savage model 93in either 22mag or 17hrm. Can the trigger be tweaked on the gun? I've heard that they have very heavy triggers, if they can't be worked on then I don't want one. Just thought someone might have some input on the caliber and some knowledge on the trigger. About how much to adjust it, if it is possible?

I just recieved an e-mail this week from Numrich Arms that they have .17 barrels for Ruger 10/22 Mag. Be interesting to be able to switch. 0 -
The distributors that I have talked to are telling me the .17 will probably be a flash in the pan just like it was in the early 70's.
After people buy into the hype in the gun magazines, buy the weapons and see how easily the round is deflected/affected by wind, dust, etc., it will lose it's appeal.
I'm sticking with the .22 mag.
cheap, available, and won't go away.

I'm interested in some info on this. For a 100-125 yrd varmit round--which is better the 17 or the 22mag. I have a marlin 882ss--pretty happy with it but how does it comapare to a .17

I had a .17 Rem and when one compares it to other centerfires like it (the .223, 22-250, .220 Swift) it really doesn't fare too well. However, the .17 hmr is really aimed more after the lower end market and is shot from the cheaper rimfire guns (versus the short action centerfire). I too didn't see the benefit of it, but I think it has a nice niche. 0 -
hickswr. The trigger can be tuned by a gunsmith. My brother bought a Savage and it had a hard trigger. Gunsmith did a fine job. Smoothed and lightened the trigger. Good luck. 0 -
I Have both calibers and I love the 17hmr. It is much more accurate than my 22mag.It works great on small game. I am thinking of getting ride of my 22 mag. I have the marlin in stainless,bull. I don't care what anyone says it is very accurate at 100.And that is all you really need anyway.Just my opinion. 0 -

My 93 had a hard trigger and I put in the Rifle Basix www.riflebasix.com and love it! adjustable from 10oz to 2 lbs
easy to install. My view worth the 65-70 bucks.

well here is my two cents...i have always said that i thought the bullets on the 22 mag rounds were to blunt and cause them not to fly through the air smooth enough to get good b.c. well i have recently purchased the remington 22 mag 33 gr. v-max and what a difference this bullet makes..they are a little pricey but they shoot alot flatter than the hp or sp's and other rounds on the market..i think if they came out with this type of bullet before the 17hmr it would have made a difference..i to once owned a 700 in 17 centerfire and it was a very nice round but it was greatly affected by weather conditions as are other types of ammo but not as much so as the 17's..with that said i have a lot of friends that have bought 17's but i will keep my 22 mags for now and if i need bigger for varmits i'll grab my browning 22-250 or my 700 bdl in 6mm... tom 0 -
.17HMR - the answer to a question nobody ask.
It helps the manufacturers sell more guns and more expensive ammo.
The 33 grain .22 Mag is the way to go. It will still be around in 5 years.
