recommendations for a snub nose?
i'm in the market currently for a new revolver & am leaning towards a snub nose. i was thinking either Taurus, or Smith & Wesson. my question is, what kind of problems do you run into with larger calibers (.357, .45) when there is only a 2" barrel? most of the ones i've looked at are either 5 or 7 shots. why is this? what happened to the "six shooter"? is accuracy severely diminished with such a short barrel? what do you have? this will be my new carry weapon, b/c my XD-40 is a bit big. any recommendations as to caliber, make, etc would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Mrs Rembrandt carries a Smith & Wesson model 36.....357, 5 shot. Very small and compact, I wouldn't use it for a target gun, but it's accurate out to 25 yds. 0 -

my personal preference for a snub nose is my Ruger SP101, .357, with a 2.5 in. barrel. the gun is practically industructible, and at a pretty reasonalb price. some problems that come with such a short barrel is that when shooting .357 mag rounds (esp. hot rounds), the recoil tends to be too much for many people. for me however, i enjoy the big bang and recoil, thats why i bought the gun. if this is a problem you can always use .38 spl rounds in it too. accuracy is not bad, mine can shoot 3 in. groups at 25 yds, which is further than most reported shootings occur at. 0 -
I have A taurus 627 titanium 7 shot .357 mag 2'' ported bbl. A S&W 386PD 7 shot scandium frame, 2'' non ported bbl, with crimson trace laser grips. Both great carry guns, both are small enough to carry just about anyplace. I try not to confuse my 2'' bbl'd guns with my target pistols. These two guns will both put all seven shots on a paper plate while moving and shooting at 15 yards no problem. The taurus has much worse trigger pull than the smith does, but it is not a bad trigger. You could get the Taurus in stainless for about $400.00 and the Smith is anywhere from $650-$800. Neither of these guns weigh very much and that's nice if your gonna carry it all the time. So I guess it's how much do you want to spend on a concealed carry revolver? One other note about the little Taurus, I don't care for the grooved rear site/front ramp combo, but it's 4'' version comes with adjustable rear sights so you could probably have it done that way but I don't know what it would cost you. And the only problem is the recoil my friend, both guns work perfectly, but you know you're shooting them. Most the time I keep the Taurus with me, simply to save wear and tear on the smith.

Rembrandt,the mod 36 does not come in .357 mag.The model 60 stainless does.

[?] My two cents worth what it cost ya ..some one on here said that,kinda thought it was cool --For a carry gun your talking close 7yds and under,If hes not that close you best have a good line why deadly force was warranted--- you don't need a .357-- a 38.spl will suffice. as for the stainless ...if you ever need to pull it at night and the stainless reflects under the street lites you will have people screaming for a half block...(maybe a good idea??) I have seen many write ups on the old military Police mod 10 S&W 38 spl. K frame it will take the +P 38 ammo ,with not near the punishment the snub lite 357s will dish out. My blue 10 has been with me over 25 yrs and other than bluing wear from the holsters, I have had no problems as far as rust etc. --An After thought,If God forbid you would have to use it..you may not have it returned to you...A good used mod 10 can be aquired under #200.00 with a little shopping..ck' the prices on the new stainless 357 mags...which would rather donate to the locals?? like I said just my two cent--FOOD FOR THOUGHT--[8D]

i like snubs without exposed hammers. they always get caught on something. try a gun with a hammerless or a button hammer.

Don't discount the older colt aluminum frames. A nice Agent or cobra can be had for less than $300, weighs less than a pound and holds 6 rounds.
