Mauser firing pins
Ive got a Yugo mauser with the very tip of the firing pin broken off. I removed one from a Polish bolt to replace it, much to my suprise, they are differnt. I know I have a German one somewhere....are the German ones the same? should I even bother looking for it? could take awhile...
What If I cut off the broken one about a half inch back and welded a rod to the end and reshaped? would this last ya think? What should I use for the new tip? somthing soft or drill rod?

It would be tough to weld a tip on and try to get it straight, unless you go oversize on the tip and have a surface grinder and a spindex to grind it back down true. If you don't get it straight I'm afraid it might wear the inside of the bolt. If you try and weld something on the end you'll want to go with something at least case hardened, if it's too soft it will mushroom on the end giving you the possibility of a stuck firing pin which could cause a slam fire.

If they're still moving, put another round in them!

I'll end up getting a replacement but I need one for now to hold me over, will try the weld trick.

I'd check for an exact replacement, If you weld it up and it protrudes too much, you'll pierce a primer and be in the market for a new M48[;)]

PS: the Yugo Mauser has a slightly shorter action and bolt than the regular 98 Mauser if I remember correctly. I think there was also a Persian Mauser made in the same dimensions as well.

you'll need a m-48 firing pin, the standard length m-98 will not work. century has them and gun parts might. to retip the broker one find a short piece of drill rod the size of the f.p. hole, grind the end of the f.p. back enought to be able to drill a short hole with the same size drill. then soft solder the drill rod in place using just enought heat to flow the solder (this will not change the heat treating). trim to the proper lenght and round the tip off. 0 -
