it effectiveness is 150yrds also accuarcy drops off after that jhp's or jspt 40gr'rs if you reload you may experence fly'er if you do try 223 instead of 224 it doesn't have a loud report little kick
personally i'd rather have a 22-250

Please clairify your question. I interpret it as a question regarding the 22 Hornet centerfire cartridge designation. I think Tree interpreted it as a question regarding the Remington Hornet BRAND of 22LR ammo. If my interpretation is correct the 22 Hornet is considered an excellent short range(150 yards) varmit cartridge but is somewhat succeptable to wind drift. Longer shots or heavy winds are better covered by the 223 or 22-250. If you handload it can be a bit finicky to load. Someone who actually shoots one should be able to give you more detailed information. 0 -

I shoot, and reload for, a CZ American in 22 Hornet. The rifle is quite accurate to about 150 yds. Best group (shot by my wife) was just over 1/3 inch at 100yds. Load a 35 grain V-MAX over 13 grains of Lil'Gun.

I had a hornet several years ago.
Don't remember what ammo I used,as
around here you pretty well didn't
have much to choose from.I do know that
it was very accurate up to about 150 yd.,
and was used to down many a deer(head shots only).
I know I'll get flamed for that,but oh well.[:D]

The 22 Hornet is a great varmit cartridge[^], but unless you reload, it is expensive[V]. With the standard 45 grain factory load, I consider it to be an excellent cartridge out to 200 yards.
My personal choice however, is the 22 K-Hornet (strictly a reloader's cartridge) as it offers a substantial improvement over the standard 22 Hornet cartridge. I have an old Winchester Model 87 Winder Musket that I had converted to this cartridge. With my loads, it pushes a 50 grain JHP at 3100 fps out of a 28-inch barrel, and it is extremely accurate out to 300+ yards. The 22 K-Hornet cartridge is significantly easier to reload as well, as it only requires neck sizing.

i've owned several .22 hornets, all shot well with proper reloads. i liked the 35/40 gn bullets best. good on praire dogs out to 250 yrds on a calm day. otherwise a 150/200 yrd rifle. 0 -
I really enjoy mine,Ive taken two coyote with it.But I do prefer my 22-250 or my .223 for animals the size of Bobcat or coyote.It is a very accurate round.

i can shoot cloverleaves at 100yds with my 40gr soft points loaded up with 4227 or 296, going out a marble scoped 1936 winchester model 54. after 100 yds, it opens up a little...1" groups, low on the hairs. the 22 hornet was the rage in the 30's as is the 17cal is today. it was suppose to be a step up from the 22 mag. it did well for the time it was popular. like many things, it is almost obsolete except for old timers that still enjoy it and those relearning it thru reloading and collecting.

I am with Bert H. My "K" Hornet is on hte Ruger #3. One of my most fun guns. Can shoot all day long (dogs, ground squirrels), and still lift your arm at days ends. Love it. Don't know why the "Hornet" was not abandoned and only the "K" built and sold. No comparison. Thst is my cent and a half. GW. 0
