Sounds like a Lou Horton special to me. I had a 3" magna-ported 629 a few years ago as you described. Anytime I hear of a 3" barrel on a 629, I think Lou Horton. It kind of tends to be their trade mark on S&W 629s, and especially with magna-porting. That was a dang accurate and controllable gun. It is a keeper if you ask me.

The 3" barrel holds true for the M29 as it does for the M629. These were Lew Horton specials also. If the blueing around the Magna-Porting is sweet, then my guess would be that the magna-porting was done for S&W by Magna-Port prior to the gun being blued. I am a blue S&W gun fanatic, and you have real keeper. I got your email, don't sell this one. BTW, my little 3" M629 would keep groups under 2" @ 25 yards. The only other one I can do that with is my M625 in .45 ACP.

Rick, Got your email. I would hold onto that gun. It was made in 1985 and is one of only 200 made on special order, in that configuration, for Lew Horton.

The special order # 5531 should be ref to the fact that it was built as part of a special run for Lew Horton.
As far as the porting goes, there is no reference to porting on the guns in that run, so that feature may have been performed by Lew Horton.

Given the fact that there were only 199 other guns made with yours, and that it is part of a special run for Lew Horton, I would estimate its value at $700.00+. Keep and enjoy it.

You may have one that I owned. I bought the complete set of Horton 3" guns - M27 & M627, M29 & M629. Both fluted and unfluted cylinders. I had them all Magna-Ported.

Bad times forced me to sell all 8 revolvers in order to save my house. They were all excellent shooters, except for the 627 fluted.

Wish I still had them. Hang on to it... it's a winner.
