Winchester 94 30-30

Anyone have any idea when a 94 30-30 with sn: 3628069 was made?

    i also picked up a very nice 30-30 top ejection, winchester model 94. does any one know the value. there are no drill marks for a scope or anything altered on this gun. very nice shape. serial number is 1681XXX.

    A general overview would be great. Im unfamiliar with this type of gun accept for what I have read in the instruction manual. Most of the time people provide more accurate descriptions than manuals and the knowledge gained is most times greater.

    Hello gun_runner...

    Hmmm... yours is a VERY general question, but here goes...

    Your Carbine was made before Winchester screwed up an incorporated the hammer block safety system (which was replaced in 1992 with the even uglier Cross-bolt hammer block safety). It is also still of the old top eject style (Winchester switched to the angle eject in 1983).

    The Winchester Model 94 is an absolute classic, and it is well suited for its intended purpose... deer or black bear sized game animals (or smaller) at ranges up to 150 yards. Standard out-of-the-box accuracy is normally about 2" at 100 yards... some will do better (and some are worse). If you reload, never use spire point bullets, and load to factory specifications (it does no good to try and hop up a 30-30 cartridge).

    My personal preference is for a Model 1894/94 that is pre WW II, and that it be a true "Rifle" (26" octagon barrel) versus the "Carbine".

    Thank you for the info.(P.J.) I did alot of research regarding this rifle before I purchased it but there is always someone out there that knows more. As with any gun there is always a trick or way of making them better and facts regarding them that are better described by the people that own them as opposed to manuals or written research.

    lOOKS LIKE BERT H., SUMMED IT UP IN A NUT SHELL!...Not much more I can ad at this juncture...just keep in mind....Never Load your 94 with Pointed Bullets...I've never heard of it happening....but, the recoil could possibly cause the bullets in the Magazine to detonate the round in front of it....

    In forty+ years of shooting, I have never seen a documented case of that happening. I think it's an old wives tale, or maybe something conjured up by lawyers.

    Hello Doug...

    I tend to agree with you, and I have never heard of that happening either... but (a big one to boot), I sure would NOT what to be the one unlucky fellow to find out the hard way[B)]

    Many a fond memories of deer hunting with my first deer rifle - the Winchester Model 94 in 30-30 caliber. It still remains with my collection, still gets carried in a deer season once in awhile and it remains as issued with it's open sights- no scope! It is a pre-64 model, bought in 68 for the sum of $50. Enjoy the rifle, practice with it and a word for the wise, most 94's like the 170 gr bullets over the 150's.

    I agree about the pointed bullet myth. I do not know of any incident where this has happened and I've been shooting about as long as Doug.
