Blue Book lists this under Sako section with no mention about scarcity.
    Says discontinued in 1997. $1000 in 100 %

A-37, I remember the rifles you describe. In the late 1950's and early 1960's Marlin marketed a rifle they built using Sako actions. They had a micro-groove barrel and stock that they either bought or produced. I could only find the Varmint King listed in 1959 in the Gun Digest. Since they were only sold for a short time they would be scarce but not necessarily valuable. It should be of interest only as a shooter or to a Marlin collector. The rifles MFI found in the Blue Book are the Sako's that were both manufactured and marketed as Sako's.

i beleive they made at least 2 models one with a sporter barrel and one that was heavier...one was the model 322 and I dont remember if the other had a numerical designation or was just refered to as the varmint king. I have seen then sell from 325 up to 650. my friend had one with what I would call a medium weight heavy barrel and it routinely shot groups in the .5 range...you can find the values of these by condition in the bluebook under marlin 322 (or at least you use to be able to) and can also find them in some of the "picture" reference books under marlin... mongomery wards also used the sako action on some of their guns ( have seen one in a 243 and one in a 308)and I never paid attention to the lines of the rifle, but it is possible that marlin put these together for them as well
