stock question

I rebarreled a rifle and the barrel was a smaller around than the first. Now I have a gap between the barrel and the sides of the barrel chanel. The barrel glassed well to the bottom but it looks
weard with the gap on the sides. Is there any way to fill the sides in so it looks good or do I need to get a new stock????

    How do you tell if a Remington 700 wood stock is long action or short?



    Edited to add the word wood.
    Also it's a ADL.

    Without seeing the stock, it will be a judgement call.

    The recoil bolts will provide additional strength for the recoil flange. If the action is bedded properly, there should be no problem. If not, the stock could crack in the rear tang area, but I wouldn't think it will totally disentegrate with the first shot. Never saw that in all my years of shooting!

    I'd go ahead and trust that my gunsmith knew what he was doing and shoot the thing. 'Course, that's my opinion from way over here!

    I have a Remington Model 7 an i had the stock break within about 8 shots. I had the SAME problem u do. Mine had a little thiness and it broke but it only cracked. but mine had a little but of unsmoothness on the metal on wood but i dont think that it would have made that much difference. Mines a .308 caliber and its a little less power than ur .300 mag. I would say if it did break there wouldnt be much danger because it would only crack. I say shoot it and dont think about it, if it cracks it cracks, and u would have to buy a new one anyways.
