H&K Pistols - Which One?
I am in the market for an HK .45 caliber pistola. Would love to hear opinions on the USP Expert, Elite, Tactical, and Mark 23, all in .45 cal.
1. What makes the Mark 23 so high dollar compared to others?
2. What is a good price range, or place to shop that is reasonable?
I own a Glock 30 and a Colt Officer. How do the HK's stack up? Are they justifiable for the $$$?

The HK pistols are great, well deserved in their reputation.
But have you seen the Mark 23 it's HUGE!
I have an HK compact and the regular USP and both in .40 cal
The regular gun is a fine weapon, But I prefer the compact for carry use because of it's shorter length.
I have a bunch of 1911's but don't carry them because of the size and weight.

The Mark 23 I believe uses a different frame from all the others.
If the Mark 23 price scares you I'd suggest the Tactical (unless you live in Cali like me, I had to get the Expert, cause the Tactical and the Mark 23 are Assault Weapons in Cali due to the threaded barrel).
If you got the bucks, get the Mark 23. Its IMHO worth the money, you won't be disappointed.0 -
The statement about the large size of the Mark 23 concerns me. I like 'em compact... The HK compact .45 only holds 8 rounds...I already have the colt... 
The glock is small and holds ten...
Looks like a choice between the tactical .45 and the Mark 23...

My wife used to carry the USP .40, complained was too heavy to carry around, so got her a Taurus 2" 357 5 shot, she liked it better, due to weight.
Dont get me wrong, the USP 40 is a super nice gun, super reliable and accurate.
But, my boss has the SOCOM in 45 super nice piece but weighs too much and too big to try to hip conceal. Nice part on the SOCOM is that you can lock the slide for single shot operation for use with a suppressor. SOCOM's are around the $2,200 - $2,500 range.
Where as the Tactical does not have the locking slide feature.
Now the Tactical with the threaded barrell, is my preferred.
Due to AWB the Tactical maybe history pretty soon, and would become a semi investment vehicle. The tacticals are running around $1000.
Anyway since your in TX, you can get a suppressor for it.
With a good suppressor all you can hear is the slide cycling and a very low pitched snap. This makes it nice to practice shooting in the urban area, without upsetting the neighbors and the cops.
On suppressor's I would go with AWC, Gemtech or HK's, expect to spend around $600-$800 on a super good suppresor.
Any HK you get, you will be happy with. They are accurate, well balanced, trouble free, and a pleasure to shot.
By the way, my CCW weapon is a Berreta Cougar 8357, that the company I work for supplied. Otherwise I would be carrying the wifes USP .40, which I have ordered a threaded barrel for obvious reasons.
Might as well beat up their gun, instead of mine.

I have the HK USP Compact 45 with the stainless steel slide. I could not begin to tell you how many rounds have been through that gun. I have never had a single malfunction. Not one. Great for carry and super easy break down and cleaning. 0 -
If you like the size of say the Desert Eagle VII (.41/.44 or 50AE) without the weight then you'll like the Socom ... I've bought 2 Socoms and at least 3 of the DE's because of the coolness factor ... I keep them for a little while then sell them ... because for me they are so large they are just not all that comfortable to shoot. I have the HK Tactical and Match, both are a pleasure to shoot ... unless you really just like BIG pistols, I would reccomend either the Match or Tactical.

I have the Expert model. I just got it. The first time I took it to the range, it's performance leads me to believe, that it will live up to my expectations.
I had to watch the auctions for a while, but I got it here on GunBroker for $900. The cheapest locally was $1495. This is just to let you know, if you are patient, there are some good deals here.
