Plastic practice rounds?

I recently ran across a box of .38 cal. plastic rounds marked "Speer" on the bottom that appeared to use only the primer to propel the plastic reusable projectile at low speeds for short distances like practice rounds in a basement or something. Anyone ever heard of these things? Were they ever made in other calibers? Was this what they were actually used for or was it for something else?

  Thats what they are... It think Speer calls them T38's or something to that effect. I have used them some. Great for indoor practice in the basement. Use a hanging piece of carpet for the back stop and the bullets can be used almost indefinately. I think I used a large magnum pistol primer for best results. About 25' they were reasonably accurate. They make 45's which use brass cases and 44's that work like the 38's.

  They date back to the 60's. Use to use them for indoor practice loads for my Model 28. Caution! the plastic residue fouls the chambers. Scrub the chambers with bronze bore brush and solvent, used to clean plastic wad residue from shotgun barrels.
