What ammo in a 1911?
Was just wondering if anyone could tell me if all .45 ammo will work in my SA 1911 .45?
Are there rounds that I should stay away from or should everything work?

Some are only marked 45 Auto. If you are that unsure as to the correct ammo, for safetys sake you should take the gun and whatever ammo you have to a gunshop.Most would advise you without charge.Bob

Yes, anything marked .45 ACP or .45 Auto or .45 Automatic should work. However, you may find that blunt nosed bullets like lead semi-wadcutters or jacketed hollowpoints may not feed well and cause your pistol to jam without a little custom work. Also, you should install a heavier recoil spring (20 lb.) and a Wilson's Shok-Buff on your recoil spring guide before shooting too many +P rounds. 0 -

It's just as DG says.
However, about the only other .45 you're likely to run into is .45 Colt....also known as .45 Long Colt. It's a longer, rimmed round, and won't fit into your magazine, so there's little likelyhood of your of mistaking it.0 -

I've found UMC to be dirty, don't shoot Wolf or Blazer.

Buy a couple boxes of what you recognize, maybe six or seven different kinds, and start from there.
Shoot two boxes of the same ammo each time out, and keep notes.
Multiple mags? A little nunber in indelible to note which one might be consistantly misfeeding.
This way, you can note which ammo shoots "dirty" in your piece, which mag may malfunction with a particular ammo, and if a mag problem is limited to a particular ammo.

They seem to have a fair price/selection.
I have burned through about 1500 rounds of the cheap WOLF steel cased stuff, and it groups fine in my 1911's. However, my gunsmith sez ' you are gonna ruin a good gun with that cheap 'stuff''.

Shoot whichever brand .45ACP runs through it reliably and accurately. All guns are a bit different so what works great for others may not always work perfectly for yours. I only use FMJ loads through my 1911s and have never had a problem with them. I did try semi-wadcutters once, just once. I went to a match and accidentally grabbed two boxes of 9mm rather than my 45s and borrowed a couple of boxes from a friend. I always triple check my ammo now.
