AK-47 magazines

I have approximately 15 ak-47 magazines, and there is some question as to how much they are worth, they are 30 round magazines, and all are metal (unsure if they are aluminum or steel). Anyone have any idea?

    Use a magnet to check if they are metal. I cannot give a worth,there are so many mags out there. Is there any writng on mags?

    I've never heard of any aluminum AK magazines, so I'd suspect they are steel--if a magnet sticks, they're steel.

    You probably won't find any writing on them; value will depend on the country they're imported from and "quality," but most all AK-47 imported magazines are "decent" quality. Some of the East German ones have smoother feed lips; some of the older imports have chrome followers; it is hard to tell "quality" without looking at one in person.

    If I assume these are just "average" former East Block mags I'd say:

    Value is between $7 and (maybe) $25 each--depending on how you want to look at it. If they were stolen from you and you wanted to get an estimate for insurance loss--it probably would cost you around $25 each to buy new ones at a local gun shop. If you wanted to turn them into cash, there are a number of places someone can order them for $10 or less, so most dealers probably wouldn't pay you much more than $7 or $8 each.

    My opinion on the best thing to do with them is to not worry about their "value" and just buy an AK--if you don't already own one--and use the magazines! [;)]

    The values you've been given all seem to assume that they are 7.62x39 cal and if that's the case then they are right on. If they are 223 then they will be more valueable.

    BTW: CDNN investments always has new 30's in 7.62x39 for less than $10.00 ea

    A early made Russian slabside mag should be worth more than average.

    THE ESTIMATES SEEM VERY RESONABLE ,IVE BOUGHT THE SAME STEEL MAGS OR AT LEAST CLOSE TO THEM ,FOR 8 DOLLARS APIECE. AND THAT WAS ONLY FOR 20 OF THEM,SO I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE EXPERTS,THE ONLY WAY THERE WORTH ANY MORE MONEY IS IF THEY ARE IN ANOTHER CALIBER.[;)]

    treedawg, as far as I know, no AK-47 magazines were ever made in anything but 7.62x39. The Kalashnikov-style .223 rifles were not identified as AK-47 models. The .223 rifles are generally known as AKS models, and do not use AK-47 magazines.

    Gunner Chris, your shift key is stuck on. Try unlocking it for future posts so your posts will be easier to read. If the magazines are in a cartridge other than 7.62x39, they're not AK-47 magazines, but rather AKS magazines or the like.

    JC, as usual you are correct. You also have the AK-74, but I guess I still consider them all AK-47's refering more to the style of the weapon than the caliber.
