Screw size for Rem 788 factory sights.
Can anyone tell me what size screws to buy, perhaps from Brownell's, for the factory rear sight for a Reminton 788, it's a barrel mounted sight? One member told me they are probably 6 X 48. I assume that 48 threads per inch, not sure on the 6? Anyway I need a couple. I saw some on Numrich's website, but they're also $9.00 with postage. That'll be a last resort. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Your best and least expensive route will be to call Remington. Ask for service and tell them what you need. Most manufacturers can take a credit card over the phone and have your parts to you in a week or so.
I have recently ordered parts from Ruger and Marlin, both of which were a pleasure to deal with. I am sure Remington will be the same.
My humble suggestion,

If they're the same as those used on the 700's, they're 6x48.
That is a number 6 machine screw, 48 threads per inch. If you've got a gunsmith nearby it's likely he would have some.
Good luck,
