New Beretta - What happened?

I bought a new Beretta Tomcat Inox yesterday from a respected local gun dealer. Got to take her to the range today and pop some caps. I did not want to use the GoldDot ammo I bought yesterday at the range. I thought maybe UMC 71 Gr. would work for range ammo. I have a friend who uses the same stuff in his Tomcat. Loading 5 rounds at a time, the first 6 clips worked great. On the the 7th clip, the last round jammed pointing straight up and the front of the slide had popped loose. O.K., I cleared it and snapped the slide back down. The 8th clip fired fine. The last round of the 9th clip jammed the same way the 7th clip jammed with the front of the slide popping loose. What's going on here? Any ideas? Is it the ammo? If so, what is a good range ammo? Or, should I be calling Beretta?

    I would take it back to the dealer, let him refund your money and let him send it back for credit. A one day old gun that now needs to be returned for repairs to the factory and will more than likely be gone for 30 to 45 days........Not a pretty story.

    Another thing, I returned one.......twice for the slide coming off....they never were able to fix it so it would quit that......I traded it off to a local gunsmith that said he could fix it......Hope he did or maybe you got my old one............

    Find another gun......that one will never quit that. It's built into them.

    Thanks RacheroPaul. I'll take it to the range one more time next week with some different ammo and see if it fails again. If so, I'll be visiting the dealer again. These are good people with a long history of being honest and fair. This is why I didn't want to buy something on the internet. I want to deal with people face to face.

    Sorry to here that I have the same gun and have used the umc ammo just fine on the 3 rd box I too would take it back but can tell you when you get one that is right it is very accurate and a joy to shoot [^]

    Slides don't come off because of ammo....as a rule, unless loaded to the point of blowing up the gun! It won't "Heal Itself." Not worth risking the whole damned thing coming off and hitting you in the face, as an example.......but then, you may be "tougher than me!" A week's "rest" for the gun and different ammo might be just what it needs to come all apart and hurt someone or you! Safety First......or Last! Your Call I guess! You're making a very big mistake to continue using an obviously "Defective and Possibly Dangerous Gun!"

    I just did the D.R.O.S. on mine today...get it in ten days.
    I wondered how a slide can pivot and slide...
    I'll be ready for any problems.

    I finally sent my PPK/S into Walther. Third problem. Nothing broke (this time), I just got tired of an occasional jam. I've asked for a lifetime warranty, but they say "NO".

    So my last gun was a new Colt, and it is shooting PERFECTLY.

    Thanks for your input folks. I think I'll take it back. I am concerned about it coming all apart as said first of all. Second, my confidence in the gun has gone down the range so to speak. 2 hang ups with a jammed slide in 45 rounds on a NIB gun does not give me great confidence.
