Lots 'O Remington 710 Gripes

I've noticed alot of folks here seem to disregard, dislike or outright loathe the Remington 710 series of rifles. I myself have a Remington 700 (which means I spent the extra dough and got a fairly decent rifle, I'm guessing) and I'm wondering: given the level of animosity this series seems to provoke when mentioned, are the 710s simply cheap, crappy rifles, or not-cheap-but-crappy, or what? I don't see any specific criticisms when the 710s are discussed, which is why I'm curious---just stuff like "burn your money, it's the same thing if you buy a 710" and such. Do they blow up? Jam? Blow case-heads? Put up 20" groups at 100 yards? What?

Anything that sounds THAT crappy piques my curiosity!

    not much into remingtons but did sight in my b inlaws 710 or atleast i think it was a 710 grey plastic stock short bolt throw very cheap made rifle but did group well "it is a 270win" and grouped under an inch with a very junk scope on it
    i would probably never own one myself i guess....would make a cheap throw around rifle for the pickup and tractors though if it fell out and got run over or such wouldnt be out much[:D]

    My lil'bro bought one in 30.06.I got it
    sighted in for him(finally).Cheaper than
    cheap scope that came on the gun.I recomended
    he replace it with something better but he
    opted to try it this year and see how it works
    out.I don't like box type magazines on a deer
    rifle(but that's my opinion)and I darned sure
    don't like having to remember to carry a key along
    just to make it work.IMHO,anybody that needs to lock
    and unlock a rifle doesn't need to be having one
    in the first place.But that's another subject.
    Overall the gun just looks cheap and the action is
    rough as a cob.

    All things considered,I guess if a person just wanted
    a "beat around gun" and didn't care what it ended up
    looking like(since it's already butt ugly) and all that
    mattered was that it goes BANG,it might be alright.
    AS LONG AS YOU DON'T FORGET THE KEY!!

    I don't think you will see them around for very long! Remington has had some problems with them.
    Made to compete with the lower priced firearms, just not a very good job.

    Just looked at a picture of one off the Remington website---they DO look cheap. The online reviews make them sound like the next best thing to the Second Coming, extolling their "out-of-box accuracy" with praise so effusive that it sounds more like a paid political announcement than an honest review. The check from Remington must have cleared....

    Well, one of the local sporting goods stores has them for $310 here, I might have to get one and give it a try.

    I tell you an excellent alternative to one within the same price range is Winchester's Super Shadow. I bought one from waltmart. I was pretty impressed with its quality and accuracy.

    Hey Lee thats $10.00 over cost so it sounds like they are dumping them. These guns are pure junk. They have a sleeved bolt that does not function very well. We called Rem about this and they admitted to prblems with the bolt . They claimed they would polish the bolt and send back to us.You will be disappointed with this gun. Choice is yurs though.

    Academy Sports had them in early spring for $299 with scope. Action on bolt was real short and piss poor. You would be better off spending $300 on a nice used gun that is known for reliability.
    Nothing like putting your sights on a Boone and Crockett only to realize you left the f$#^%&ing key at the house.[xx(][:(]

    not to disagree with the poor quality of the gun but, in all actuality, its the right time for collectors and investors to buy them. soon, they will go by the wayside and 20 or 40 years from now...someone will want one and pay for it. seems trends indicate that low numbers of runs on guns due to poor performance or construction, will eventually command premiums in the future. case in point: whitney wolverine 22's, h&r match pistols, model 40 winchesters, spencer roper 12ga's, (and edsel fords,) etc... though crappy guns then, they command a pretty penny today. so collectors/investors, scarf em up and lock em away for the next generation to make mistakes!
