1100 Won't Cycle - Help!
Having some issues with an 1100 - bought it used and took it out for the first time. It shoots just fine but won't eject the spent shell (or cycle in a new one). Played around with some different shells - we were shooting cheap 7 1/2 shot target loads, tried 6 shot and 4 shot (duck & pheasant). The 4 shot did manage to reset the firing pin, the gun would click on the empty shell, but it seemed like the bolt wouldn't go back far enough to eject. I wouldn't think it would matter, but it is a magnum left hand version. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks!

There is a O ring made of neoprene I guess, that resides between the barrel gas port and the slide action. This must be in place and it good repair.
When a malfunctioning 1100 comes in, this is the first place I check.
You must remove the barrel to see it.

did you clean the factory grime off the gun first? always clean a gun before shooting it for the first time.

Skyking - Thanks for your advice, heard it when I bought the gun as well, so I replaced the o-ring assembly (steel and rubber rings). I also cleaned the gun throughly, including gas port- it was filthy. I also replaced the spring in the buttstock - is it possible that it is too stiff? 0 -
Were you shooting 2 3/4" in a 3"mag barrel? 0 -

Not unless it is binding. I usually substitue known good parts when troubleshooting, so unless something is bent or the barrel gas port mating area is eroded, I am at a loss to give you further advice on it.

Trap55 - I was using 2 3/4" shells. After reading your post, the bbl is marked 3". Sounds like that may be the issue. Is there anyway that I can shoot 2 3/4" shells in this or do I need to buy a 2 3/4 bbl? A buddy thought it maybe needed an extra gas port drilled into the bbl, but I'm fairly skittish with that idea. I've always been skitish with that idea too.A 2.75" barrel will go on your gun with no problems. You should be able to find one with the screw in chokes reasonbly priced. Check here on G.B or E-barf. You can pick up a new one from cabelas.com. Not sure if they have 'em for the lefty, but remember seeing one or two on e-bay. I'll bet a new barrel it solves the problem. As you probly know now the 2.75" has 2 gas ports and the 3" has 1. You might try remington.com and check their parts list to see if the L.H. bbl's are still available too. Good Hunting, TRAP 0 -

Take a torch tip cleaner and ream the gas port hole I also like to take 1/2 in. off the spring in the stock after I did this my gun would shoot 2 3/4 mags. 0
