H&R MODEL 1908 .16ga

Have a H&R Model 1908 .16ga. Harrison & Richardson Arms Co. Worchester, Mass. USA on side of receiver. Barrel is 30" SOLID RIB Marked .16ga Choke. Has checkered forearm and pistol grip. Got any information. "THANKS" VGUN1

    There isn't much else to tell. The gun was discontinued in 1942, and in 95% condition is worth about $95. H&R went out of business in 1986.

    actually the h&r offered a model they called the top rib model from 1925 until 1933. after 1933 the solid rib was offered as an option to the standard model 1908. h&r also changed the model numbers on their shotguns in 1931. the model 1908 became the model 08 standard. h&r did not offer any kind of solid rib before 1925 so your shotgun was manufactured between 1925 and 1930.

    I also have a 16 ga. Model 1908.I like it quite a bit. It was my fathers.
    From what b.goforth says mine is pre 1931. No rib at all.

    It needs a little work. It's been refinished at some time.

    VGUN, Midnight, considering their age, both of your guns might have 2 1/2" chambers. If so Gamebore and Polywad both offer 2 1/2" catridges in 16 guage.

    Gamebore can be had from Ballistic Products at a fair price. Polywad can be ordered from the web site, they're a bit pricey but then it's intended for the old vintage doubles.

    There is also quite a difference in chamber pressure between Gamebore and Polywad. GB runs 1200 psi and PW comes in at around 800 psi.

    If either of you reloads as I do Ballistic Products has quite a few load recipes for the 2 1/2" 16 guage.
