Anyone know a good web site to purchase surplus ammo (7.62x39, .45acp etc)

A friend has some surplus 45acp ammo. He said he paid roughly $5 per 50 round box. My memory is failing me at the moment. I can't remember if it was Federal manufacture or Lake City Arsenal. In any case it was in a military looking box. Do you know where this ammo is available to buy or does it just come available periodically? I can't find anything that cheap.

I think Southern Ohio Gun Co. has it too.
You may want to do a search on Dogpile.com or another search engine. Look for "Surplus .45cal Ammunition" or "Surplus Ammunition" or ".45 cal ammunition". Try a few variations in the wording and you may find what you're looking for.
You can also get .45 cal ammo at Natchez Shooters Supply (www.natchezss.com) in quantities. They have a brand, AMERICAN Ammunition, that's currently on sale for $6.89 a box of 50. Don't know how good it is. Check the specs and see if it's worth a test.
Let us know what you find.

Depending on age, the surplus .45 ammo can be a great deal. Just remember there are good reasons why it was surplused - primarily that it had reached an age where the military wasn't absolutely confident in its reliability. But for informal shooting, it will be good stuff and the brass, once the primer crimp is removed, is as good or better than its commercial counterpart. Ammo made prior to 1956 may well be corrosive primed, so that is something to bear in mind. 0
