    I considering a foul-weather hunting rifle in 7mm-08(see post in WTB).
    I am considering the Tikka T3 lite in SS/S and comparing it to the Remington 700 Mountain LSS. There is about $100 difference in price. I am sold on Tikka as a fine gun but want opinions on the two.
    Any help appreciated.

    Tikka.I bought a Mountain Rifle a couple of years ago and the trigger was heavy and had to be adjusted but the safety was stiff and not suitable to hunt with.It looked to me like Remington quality is not what it once was.

    I bought a .25-06 in the T3 Stainless Synthetic version, as has been noted. I did my research on here and other sources, and went into the purchase with fairly high expectations. This usually sets me up for disappoitment, not this time though. The trigger is the best I've seen on a production rifle for a long time and I've owned several. The T3 is light, but has a good well balanced feel. The bolt is Smooooth, the safety is a no non-sense easy to activate/deactivate set up. The accuracy with the only load I've used so far is excellent-under 1" at 100yds. One group was about 5/8". I first read about the T3 several months ago, and when I decided on another rifle I set out some criteria, which were, accuracy,good trigger and affordability. I was once a die hard Ruger 77 fan, and have killed 12 deer with 77's, but since the 3 position safety and horrible triggers, they've never had the same appeal to me. Remington added that key-safety nonsense and I've had so so luck with Remington rifles accuracy wise. I own a Browning A-Bolt and love it as well, but really didn't want another A-Bolt. Savages, though many will claim to be accurate, have terrible triggers and are crude in my opinion. I can't say enough good about the Tikka, I'm the type who expects alot out of a production rifle and if one don't suit me It won't be around long. The Tikka would be one of the last guns I'd part with. If I had to say anything negative it would be that the synthetic stock at first appears some-what cheap, it has a good feel to it though and I think it is a good as any other factory synthetic stock. If I were you I'd buy a Tikka before they go up in price or down in quality. Tikka rifles will probably never be a real popular rifle in the U.S. because most people are too close-minded to look at something besides Remington/Browning/Ruger, those who do will be rewarded with a superior firearm. I wish they made the T3 in a true short action, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

    I c&p'd this from one of my previous posts on Tikka rifles and think it is all pertainent, By the way I'm a 7mm/08 fan as well and have owned 3, my current one is a Browning A-Bolt Micro Hunter, It is very accurate as well but I kinda prefer the Tikka, though the Browning has a special place in my heart, since my wife got it for me. If they had made the T3 then, It would be my 7mm/08 too!!

    Tikka T-3 is an excellent rifle. I have been wanting one for a while and will hopefully get one by next year. Great feel and accuracy. Plus it is described as sexy so you can pick up women while hunting.[:D]

    The 700 mountian would be nice but for me it is Tikka, no contest. I have a Sako TRG-S and love it. Sako makes Tikka and from what I heard, the same quality goes into the Tikka line (Beretta imports it).

    well , i am a remington 700 fan, but i have owned several of the earlier tikka's ( ithica ) just because they were "too cool"...in my opion, tikka is what remington was...with that said, i responded to an add in the paper last night and checked out a 700 mountain lss in a 7mm/08...the owner purchased for a retirement hunting rifle but has since been afflicted with a heart problem...anyway : appears mint and has leupold 2 peice rings and bases holding a 4x12 swift scope, ammo brass and dies...he did the trigger, but I didnt try it...he was wanting $575 for the outfit...if you decide you would want this over a tikka, post , and i will give you a number...good luck on your choice !
