.38 in a .357...

ok, I know it is ok to due this. However, being a cheapo mostly shot only .38s out of my riger gp100. I was cleaning it and saw that there was a small ring inside each of the chambers. Im assuming this is residue left over from the .38s. I guess I should be shooting more .357s out of it? Is this dangerous? Anyway to get rid of it?

    Not dangerous, the .38spl. case is only 1/10th of an inch shorter. I have six or seven .357's that I regularly shoot .38 ammo through. The small ring inside the chambers will show up with either .38 or .357 loads. Just clean it. I use lots of break free and scrub, scrub, scrub. I don't own a GP-100 but my roommate recently picked one up, on it's first outing we probably put 500 rounds through it of a combination of .38 and .357. the .38's were homeloads that really dirty up the gun, but it cleaned up just fine eventually. And I routinely put hundreds of rounds per outing through my model 19 S&W, with no ill effects.

    You've really done no harm. You have residue build-up at the end of the 38 case. It could possibly cause fired 357's to stick in the cylinder when trying to eject them after firing.Get a 45 cal bronze brush and scrub the cyl. with your favorite bore cleaner. If this does not remove the ring, try it with JB Bore Cleaner.In the future, just scrub the cyl well after each use. Don't use JB each time since it is very aggressive._Bob

    Thanksguys! The .357s have no trouble going in. Well, im having a foursome then. Hoppes, brass brush, a gp100 and some tough scrubbing. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

    Step on up to Shooters Choice, JB etc and a spiral tornado brush for the cylinder.

    take that 45 cal brush and put it in an electric drill. works fine and much faster. zip...done.
