I have a pre 64 model 70 in 25 ackley mag.The gun is in very good cond. Any help on value would be great.

Sounds pretty good, I would go over it very carefully. There are essentially two price ranges for pre-64 70's. Shooters sell for under a thousand. Very fine condition collectables are generally in excess of a thousand or very near that mark. caliber also affects price, the more there were made the less the value all other things being equal. .30-06 is most common, .257 Roberts one of the least, I don't remember where .243 fits. Don't take someones word, make sure it is a pre-64, check the serial number and look it over closely.

$500 for a pre '64 Mod 70 in good condition is a great buy, regardless of chambering. The pre '64's are the controlled feed (long mauser extractor) while the post '64's are push-feed (no mauser extractor). Also, all pre '64s are below ser # 700,000.

Checked my book, a pre-64 Md 70 Featherweight in .243 has a low book of $475 and a hi-book of $850. s/n should fall into this range 206626-581471. It's a good deal, if your "perfect condition" is accurate. Regards Dave 0 -

243 is the third most common in them. Now figure 30-06 is around 200,000 and 270 around 100,000. The 243 is around 43,000. Followed closely by 308 and then 300H&H. $500.00 sounds like a real good price, even if the gun is not perfect but all original, you can't go wrong. Remember reblueing, wood refinished pad added or stock shortened, are just a few things that detract from price. 0 -

chuck chuck chuck guess maybe i got lucky all my winnys shoot as good or better than the remingtons that my brothers have[;)]
with that said year ago i was in the mrkt for a heavy bbl 22-250 while i sure looked over some remingtons real close but i put them back on the rack and got the win stealth instead.[;)]0 -

Chuck... feeling a little cantankerous today[?][:D]. Although I am quite partial to old Winchesters, most of my bolt rifles are Remingtons... in fact, the only high-power Winchester bolt rifle I own is a Model 54 (30-06 GOV'T of course)[;)]

Hmmm... my memory isn't as good as it used to be (fortunately though, I'm not as old as Chuck[:D]), but I am sure it is marked 30-06 GOV'T. It is an early second year rifle. Unfortunately, I am on a long term work assignment in Kommiefonia, and the rifle is safely locked away at my permanent home in Washington. I guess I will have to get it out and look at it when I fly home for the holidays in a few weeks.
