A distributor named Lew Horton offered many exclusive Smiths, and 3" seems to be his favorite bbl length.Hopefully someone will stop by with more details-Bob

Below is a picture of a Lew Horton Special Mod. 24-3.It will be a round butt if it's a Lew Horton .If it's square someone most likely had the barrel cut down.As far as I know Lew Hortons came with the grips you see in the picture. If your not intrested in the gun please e-mail me the location. Thanks

It does sound like a Lew Horton to me. I seem to remember that the 24-3 three inch was a LH exclusive. I had almost forgotten that was in the LSI ownership days. Thanks ATF

ATF,Punchie- Did you guys ever get any Ashland Specials? My favorite was their 3" 66 RB with a shrouded ejector long enough to actually eject a 357.Sold a bunch when I had my FFL and still have a couple[not for sale[8D]]-Bob

I think I got my FFL just around the time Ashland went out.

Just got back home so I could look up something for you. S&W 24-3 is not particularily rare. Show a run of 5,000 guns for Lew Horton in 1983-1984 with a new retail price of $380 in 1984 if you have the special fitted holster that was supposed to come with it. The book shows a current value of $325 (w/holster) for a gun in 98% condition. IMHO this is quite a bit low and would not part with mine, period.

Don't have any of the Ashland specials yet.
