W R Davenport Firearms???

Looking for information on a W R Davenport Shotgun. Have found nothing searching the internet. What I have handed down to me is a Single Shot, Pat Dec. 18, 1891. W R Davenport Fireams Co., Norwick, Conn., USA. Anybody know what I've got or what it might be worth. It's in pretty good shape............Thanks. TC

    Could that possibly be W."H." Davenport?
    If so,then this what Mr.Flayderman has to say.

    "Davenport Firearms Company.Providence,Rhode Island
    and Norwich,Connecticut.Circa 1880-1900.
    The founder,William H.Davenport,held a great many
    patents on breech-loading firearms.The company apparently
    devoted its energies almost exclusively to single barrel
    shotguns of very inexpensive grades,making them under
    both house and brand names."

    I also found W.H. Davenport, but only listed from RI. If it is the same, this shotgun will sell for $100 to a little more depending upon condition and how badly someone wants it. There were many thousands of such shotguns made as fuctionaly shooters at low prices. today, most are wall hangers.

    My info came from "Flayderman's Guide
    To Antique American Firearms".It's a
    very interesting book,but covers antique
    only for the most part.
    I also have:
    The Blue Book
    R.L.Wilson
    Gun Trader's Guide
    (more to come as I find them)

    They're all good in my opinion,but none of
    them cover everything and there are those
    guns that aren't covered by any of them.So
    that's why multiple books are nessesary to
    cover at least most of the bases.

    I Looked at the Blue Book and also Balderson's Antique and Modern Firearms. 8th Ed, 1996 out of print, but you can find it on bookfinder or advanced book exchange. No magic, no initiation, just takes money.

    If you really want to do them all, there is also The Standard Catalog of Firearms http://www.collect.com/krause/books.asp?catalog_name=Krause&category_name=Firearms+&+Knives+Bookstore&Page=1

    All of them have useful information to offer, and the information differs in detail and coverage from book to book. None of them really offer real world values, despite what are presumably honest efforts, but they do help you narrow down a price range. Have fun, Welcome to the board.
