Rifle Manufacturing Legalities?

Chevy makes a car that runs on gas. Ford also wants to make a car that runs on gas. As long as no patent infringements are involved, the fuel will work in either.

Same deal. Cartridge size is not "new or inovative" so it would be very difficult to get a patent on cartridge size. Bullets are a different story. As long as they make soft nose or FMJ, not much can be said.

I don't think any of these thoughts apply. Everyone wants to sell more guns and more ammo. Besides, by the time you read this the 204 Ruger will be replaced by the new .199 Benelli, built on the .219 Ackley Improved Zipper case, and fired through the Rossi 29" bull barreled carbon fiber rifle. Which was specifically constructed for this new round and costs only $19.95 at your local 7-11. Muzzle velocity is quoted at 11,405 fps with the 8 grain spitzer bullet. The result is that the animal you're shooting at dies from fright when he sees the label on the ammo box.

It is expected that this round may have a little longer longevity with shooters than the Ruger - oops, I forgot what it's called - and Rossi marketing gurus expect the sale of at least 11 rifles due to their extensive marketing, where they give 10 of the guns to gunwriters for evaluation.

So....The answer would be "Yes, anyone can manufacture rifles in this new caliber without licensing fees to Ruger or Hornady"??

I don't see how the car-and-gasoline analogy really applies; wouldn't this be closer to a situation where somebody creates a new fuel that wouldn't work in an ordinary car engine?

I'm sorry you didn't understand the analogy. No new fuel has been created, i.e. a cartridge is still just a cartridge.

"Yes, anyone can manufacture rifles in this new caliber without licensing fees to Ruger or Hornady"
