Best 300 yd hunting scope?

I am rescoping my .25-06 (I won't say what it is on it now as it is embarassing) for prone/sitting 300+ yard shots (with bipod) for deer. Maximum distance would be 400 yards with no wind. The Burris scopes with mil-dot reticle have been recommended to me and I am thinking 6X24 a/o. Does anyone have any other recommendations? This is not a carry gun, purely a sit and wait. It has a varmint barrel and bipod.

    You might take a look at the Shepherd line of scopes, A little pricy but I've no complaints about the quality of the optics
    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    I like Burris scopes. The optics and coatings are top flight in the Signature line and the are durable and dependable. The mil dot scope should be a good one, but I really don't shoot at those distances and cannot give you a recommendation for a particular scope.

    If its truly to be used for just posting deer, I would think a burris signature in the 4-16 would be great...if you end up shooting smaller game at those distances, the mildot may cause you problems...i have a 25/06 in a standard sporter that I use a bipod on and it is equipped with a 4.5x14 and is plenty of magnification for deer size game at the distances you state

    i been using a leupold vari X III 3.5 x 10 x 50 AO EFR for years and it was about perfect till pa came out with the new point rule i switched this season to a 6.5 x 20 x 50 AO as most of my shooting is wide open seldom under 200 yards, also i practice on woodchucks in the summer.

    I use sheppards, a little pricey, but excellant quality, and very accurate. I have a Leupold 3x9 on my 25/06, its so flat shooting you don't really need a lot of fancy scope!

    I have rem sendero 25-06 with an IOR Valdada 4-14x. It has an MP8 illuminated reticule which is basically like a mildot but the dots are small lines which you can use for hold overs. It's a little pricey but I like it much more than any of the other scopes I've owned. I've used it for deer, coyotes, hogs, and other varmits. I know someone that can give you a great price on one if you become interested.

    You can never go wrong with Leupold scopes. Buy the most expensive one you can afford. "You gotta kill it before you can grill it" Ted Nugent.

    I agree it's hard to go wrong a Leupold, I would advise against the 6.5-20 however. My cousin has one, and though it is an excellent scope, the crosshairs are very fine and it can make a low light shot very difficult. I would consider Nikon, Burris and Leupold and consider the 4-12 or 4.5 to 14 range. I admit I also don't always spend what I should on a scope, but a good scope a wise investment in the long run.
