I am in the process of cutting down a Enfield No4 (it had already been sporterized). I have cut the barrel down to 16 1/2 inches. Now I am working on the wood. I want to keep the wood over the barrel. There is now a 1/8 inch gap around the barrel and wood. I could leave it this way and have a floating barrel. But I want the wood tight. So this is what I am thinking. While doing carpentry work I often use gorilla glue. This stuff is great. It expands 4 times as it cures. When cured it is like styrofoam. It is also water and oil proof. I was thinking about putting this in the gap as I assembled the gun. Then just cutting off what oozes out. It should be solid.
What do you guys think?

    The problem with Gorilla Glue is that it would soften with the heat.Accra-glas would be the best choice-Bob

    TOOLS, I think that you've made that rifle barrel too short. If it's a .303 I think that the barrel needs to be at least 18 inches to be legal.

    Postscript: Looks like I was unduly worried, TOOLS1. Looking over some earlier posts that say 16" is OK for rifles. Sorry about that.

    Experiment and what have you lost...a little time ? The best ideas often come about empirically..try it and report the results..some of us would be interested.

    i wouldnt think it would shoot well, Accra-glas as stated above in gel form would work best.
    16 inch for a rifle barrel last i knew according to BATF

    "Chuckles" worse case scenario, you can use it for a golf club if nothing else[:)]
