F.J. Abbey & Company Shotgun
I have just picked up a percussion double barrel shotgun. It has 4 sets of barrels and it is a 10 gauge. The barrels are in a leather case. The ramrod is still there. The shotgun is heavily engraved and the receiver is nickel plated.It says F.J. Abbey & Company, Chicago, Illinois. It has a name in brass and appears to be a presentation piece. It comes in a very old leather covered box. The condition is excellent. All I could find is a little paragraph in the Schwing book.

My references notes that Fredrick J. Abbey was a high-quality gun maker/inventor who worked in Chicago, IL between 1858 & 1877.
He not only made percussion shotguns but rifles and pistols also. Breach loading shotguns were made during the later years.
Apparently his craftsmanship wasn't fully appreciated in the U S as he relocated to England in 1878.0 -
Just looking thru My database and find that ABBEY,F.J.& Co., of 43 South Clark Street, Chicago, Ill., 1870 thru 1874. Makers of Muzzle and Breech-Loading Rifles and Shotguns: and then I find that a
George T. ABBEY, was in Business in Chicago, Ill., 1858-1874..But I can't find out what the Relationship is between the Two...???
Father/Son?.... Brothers?.....Cousins?...If You find out, would you kindly let Me know so that I Might update My database.......Best....
