Ruger M77 vs M77 MkII?

Can anyone tell me the diff between the Ruger M77 and Ruger M77 MkII?

I am trying to buy a M77, walunt and blue, in 99% condition at a local sale. Is $300 a fair price?

    RUGER M-77,PUSH FEED, TANG SAFTY (ON/OFF); MK11 SIDE SAFTY (ON, LOCKED BOLT/ ON UNLOCKED BOLT/OFF) CONTROLED FEED. $300 IS A GOOD PRICE FOR EITHER IF IN GOOD COND.

    I've had both.First the Mod.77 (w/tang safety),
    then a Mod.77 MarkII (w/3-position safety)
    both in .270.Both were excellent rifles,but
    I never did like the 3-position safety on
    the Mark II.I sold it and got a Browning A-bolt,
    but I sure do miss that first Mod.77.

    There are a few basic differences, most have been addressed, the Mark II has a three position safety (diminished the rifle's appeal to me greatly), it also has a different arrangement for dumping the magazine suposedly to lessen the chance of accidently dropping the floorplate. The trigger quard is steel on the Mark II anodized aluminum on the M77. The Mark II has a non adjustable trigger, the 77 had a somewhat adjustable trigger. Also the bolt handle is stainless on all Mark II's. So really in the Mark II Ruger improved a couple of items, and depending on who you ask, either ruined or enhanced the 77 with the three position safety. If I could find an older 77 with the tang safety in my caliber at $300, I'd buy it. All are controlled feed!!! I think older tang safety guns in excellent condition will eventually take off in price.

    other stuff....some of the early model rugers had standard recievers that required a base for mounting instead of the intregal mount recievers...some had douglas barrels...some had a flatbolt design ...as was stated earlier, the major differences other then a few cosmetics are the trigger and safety...beleive most true blue ruger fans prefer the older tang safety model to the mark11...have a friend that has about 10 rugers and all but one are the older model; the reason for the one mark 11 is because he wanted a stainless gun and the orig. configuration wasnt ever offered in that
