Side by Side Shotgun

Hi I purchased a double barrel shotgun from a local gun shop. We could not find anything signifying it's manufacturer. The only thing we found was this symbol it has SP with a circle around a 3 pronged pitchfork attached to the top. It also says "Coach Gun" the shotgun is very small only 2-3 feet long total. I will get the exactg measurments tonight. and it says "Made in Japan" on the top of the left barrel. If anyone could give me some info about this gun would be great. I will post more about the gun later tonight if possible.

    I am currently looking to buy a new line of side by side shotguns. I would like to get 12,16,20,28 and .410 gauges. Does any company even make a full line of side by side shotguns like this anymore? thanks for looking,

    rossi made coach guns, but im not sure if they were made in japan. maybe someone could help out. btw....does it have exposed rabbit ears?

    Well it Says "SP" on the gun. I am fairly new to guns so pardon me for asking what are rabbit ears? It only has a single ball sight at the end in between the 2 barrels.

    I think he is asking if it has exposed hammers or internal firing pins.

    Ahhhh, ok. It is all internal. when I push the lever to the left the gun cracks open and cocks the gun. I can hear it go "click" when it opens.

    coach guns were just that. they were for 'jeb' riding shotgun on a stage coach. if it was made in japan, it is a reproduction. most coach guns had exposed hammers that were hand cocked....one on each side of the receiver. yours seems to be internal...unless that click you hear is just the ejectors cocking. cant help you on the mfg.. maybe someone else can. how much did you pay for it? let me guess....200.00 or less?

    I see almost NO coach guns made in Japan..spain,belgium,brazil,etc...
    Does it say 'Miroku" under the barrel hinge by any chance? If so it's probably a darned nice shotgun.Do you know how to field strip it to look for further markings? On most sxs,you remove the forearm,hold onto the barrels and open the gun...the barrels will come right off and may show some more markings.
    Inquiring minds want to know!! :)

    Well all it says for markings is "SP" with a circle around it, and a 3 pronged pitchfork attached to the top of it. I will try to get a pic of it and post it. And as for the click it only clicks after I pull the trigger.

    I paid $170 for the gun. There are some writing on the butt of the gun, but I don't know if that is the orginal stock or a replacment stock.

    Ok here is what is written on the bottom of the barrels. Both barrels have these items; "SP" with a circle around it and a 3 pronged pitchfork attached to the top. 70mm. Then M.O.D (Ministry of Defense?) And lastly 12ga.

    Hello Ismircic...

    The "SP" indicates that it is Spanish in origin, and the "MOD" is quite likely short for "modified" choke bore. The 70mm means that it is chambered for shells no longer than 2 3/4" (in other words, don't use 3" magnum shells in it).
