Colt Python Purchase

I have always wanted a 6" blue Colt Python and have decided to go ahead and buy one. Everything I read indicates that the older Python's are better and, quite frankly, I didn't even know that Colt had begun manufacturing them again.
This looks like a good gun, but the $1200.00 sounds a bit steep. Says it's a 1974 s/n: E76859 in very good condition. What is the deal with the description of "blue-black finish"? I thought they were either blue or black. Doesn't say anything about having the original box. I will have to ask about that. They are currently holding this item for me. Need to make a decision.

To start, it looks to be the royal blue finish that colt did. I tend to agree that the price is a lil steep, i would pay it for a un fired 1974 vintage or a 38 spl target grade, but for a fired i think it is high. 0 -
one of our local shops has one for 6-7 beans, it has some holster wear on the muzzle, i do believe it is an older model.
i have one while it is a sweet gun, i dont shoot it or see any use for it really, i prefer a 45 auto in a handgun.
i think the one i have is fairly old, it isnt stamped "colt industries" like the later model colt guns.0 -

Manderson, don't know if you are locked in on this item. I would offer My 6" blue Python, in the original box, with papers. Would let it go for $889.89 + $34.11 S&I, to the FFL. May have been fired, but is in, as new condition. GW 0 -
You can get a new Python Elite for that kind of money. A good clean Python typically sells for around $700. Great gun but doesn't have to be an oldie to be good.

The Python is a great gun, smooth action and worth the money when they were new, but not at $1200. I suggest that you keep looking or look at one of the other offers you received.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies. Great forum and good people. Spoke with the dealer and they basically said it's expensive because it's California and everything is more expensive out there. They were pretty honest in saying $800.00 is about the going rate for a good Python in other parts of the country. I appreciate all the offers, but I have to start putting some money away in order to complete a cash transaction. Will be keeping an eye on the auction area until then. Thanks again. 0 -
I have had a 6" stainless Python in my shop for quite a while on consignment. Its in real nice condition and it is priced at 675.00. Lots of lookers but no one has bought it. Maybe if I raise the price to 800.00 someone will buy it. Maybe they think something is wrong with it because it is only 675. 0 -
Wow, no kidding XP100. I have a stainless 4" at $499 and no hits...maybe $800 would work...Hmmmm.
