Mauser bolt action in .45-70?--Gunsmith?

I know that many years ago some distributor was offering a Mauser bolt action in .45-70. I don't recall the model number, but I'm sure it wasn't a 98.
I have an old (1917 Spandau) 8 mm. and was wondering if it would be worth the time and effort to re-barrel it to .45-70?
I realize that the bolt would require modification because of the difference in case head size and one being rimmed and the other rimless.
Is there another Mauser (with a strong action) that would work easier?

    I thought they used a Siamese Mauser for some of those conversions?

    Rockford got it, they used a Siamese mauser. The Siamese cartridge was rimmed, and the rim was about the same size as the 45-70 rim.
    Also, the problems of feeding were addressed at the factory, rim interlocking being the main issue.


    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    These were the Siamese Mauser actions.
    Having an 8mm done over is going to be prohibitively expensive, but can be done by a well-equipped gunsmithing establishment.
    You might want to check out what Gibbs has to offer in a .45-70 based on the Lee-Enfield action.

    Converting a 98 Mauser to the 45/70 is very difficult because of the rim on the shell case. It is much easier to use the 450 Marlin round with no rim. It shoots harder than the factory 45/70 and can be converted just like any other magnum in a 98, Open the bolt face and rails ,rebarrel and you have it.
    I built one for myself and love it. The 450 is inherently very accurate.Mine will cut same holes repeatedly at 100 yds. It is the deadliest deer round in the woods.
    Recoil is not bad ,read up on it and try it.

    I see the converted Siam mausers advertised here and there. Shaw barrells the siamese mauser for 45-70 and does the feed and bolt work.

    Navy Arms sold 45-70's on Siamese actions in the early 70's.
    They weren't very fancy, barrels were heavy and ugly, straight bolt handles and in 3 barrel lengths.
    Most of them you see now have been made in gunsmith's shops and are very respectable rifles, strong enough for very heavy loads.
    I shoot 400 grain bullets at around 2200 fps. Have broken only one stock with this load.
    It inflicts pain both in front of and behind the muzzle.

    Consider the enfield action mine shoots 1moa @100yds w405 gr bullets and functions great

    Myself and a couple of my friends all have Siamese Mausers in 45-70. We had ER Shaws do the barrel and action work. They did a great job at very reasonable prices. The last I knew Gun Parts/Numrich Arms had all the parts needed to put an action together. According to expert opion the Siamese action is strong enough that you can load the 45-70 up to near 458 WinMag abilities. I generally do not, but, it is great to know that I can. Keep hot 45-70 loads away from all classic style 45-70 rifles. I went so far as to sell my Sharps so as to avoid any possible disasters. 45-70 is/was a great cartridge as several million bison ghosts will testify to, hot it is even better.

    i made up a bunch of these when you could buy siamese rifles from sarco for 3/$75, very strong actions and already set up for the large rimmed ammo. today the easyest probably would be to find one of the p-14 drill rifles they imported about 10 years ago. i've seen them a gunshows for $100/200.

    Do you just contact these Shaw people and tell them to build you one, or what?

    Can anyone who has one post a pic, or know where there's a pic to look at??
