But the Beneli M1 will shoot 2 3/4" and 3" just as well, weighs less, and costs darn near half if you shop around. If not shooting 3 1/2's isnt a big deal, give one a try! Just my 2 cents worth....might be overpaid too......

I'm totally thrilled with my 12 ga Beretta AL 391 Urika. I have had it for three years, and it has been great!
My dad has two of them (one for hunting- one fully customized for skeet comps) and he is thinking about buying a 20 ga for skeet as well. I consider this the ultimate complement because he has a very, very nice Krieghoff fully customized for him that he has shot for years, but he has decided he likes the 391 better. He shoots about 24 boxes of shells a week!
I don't think you can go wrong with this gun!

As RiverGuide323 mentioned, I've also heard nice thoughts of that Beretta - haven't tried it myself.
It's being sold as skeet/trap-versions and sold as more commonlooking hunting-versions also. The mechanics are the same though.
But there is no match to a Benelli in my opinion.
Either European or US made.. or any other place in the world.
It is very simple to put together and to operate, it doesn't have the automatic gas-adjustmentsystem for adjusting the right pressure/amount of gas to the piston that the Beretta does.
Only trouble is - if the shells doesn't burn clean, it might seize up the gas-adjustmentsystem and the piston needs cleaning every once in a while.
Benelli is a recoil-operated autoloader.
Nothing there to clean - as it's operated through recoil and the gas-pressure in the chamber.
Being a Recoil-operated shotgun - it also means you might get a bigger magazine capacity, because the piston and spring that forces the bolt to open and close, takes up much space in the magazine.
I don't know if you can use the extra magazine capacity for anything, but I have placed an order for a 3-4-shot magazine extencion for my Benelli Super Black Eagle - just for fun.
3-4-shot.. meaning 3 shots if it's 3?" and 4 shot extencion if it's 3" or less.
I really like the safety-functions on the Benelli's.
These functions also gives a great loading/unloading-procedure, which I think is more safe than with any gun I've ever held, operated or shot.
You can operate the bolt-action, without getting a new cartridge from the magazine - in order to change the cartridge in the chamber quickly.
If you're hunting birds with shot-shells - and needs a slug, just open the bolt fully - ejecting the cartridge into your hand and load the slug instead. Any other semi-auto I know of - will take the next cartridge from the magazine if you're not carefull.
This is a great way to empty your gun as well - slide the bolt fully open and the gun will eject the cartridge into your hand - release the bolt (chamber now empty), unload like any other autoloader from the loading-port in the bottom.
You might want to talk to BambiHunter - he's been using the Super Black Eagle for a lot of years.
Seems both he and I are... rawing about it every time shotguns are discussed, for a good reason I'd say.

Yep, I'd agree with HappyNanoq about the Benelli as far as an unsurpassed autoloader. I've owned a LOT of different shotguns (doubles, pump, semi-auto, and even a bolt or two), and I got to the point no matter what I was doing I ALWAYS grabbed the Benelli Super Black Eagle so I finally got rid of the others and now I only have a single 12 gauge shotgun - the Benelli SBE. I do still have a Remington 1100 .410 and a .22lr/.410 Savage, and that's it.
Oh, one minor note about the SBE, they require 1 1/8 oz. loads (or a lighter weight spring kit if you want to shoot the very light loads). I personally have always shot the el-cheapo loads and I prefer more pellets in the air (1 1/8 oz. load) over the higher velocity of the 7/8 oz. loads. It's really no problem, just keep that in mind.
However, you're asking about the best one for the money so it sounds like you're on a budget. The Beretta is a good gun and should serve you well, but aside from the 3" chamber I'm not sure it'll really give you much to offer over the age-old Remington 1100 which is available everywhere are so are the parts.
My recommendation is to get a cheap pump (maybe a Mossberg or something) for now, and save up the money and invest in the Benelli, you won't regret it.0 -
I'd also go with Benelli or Beretta.........both great manufacturers.
The prices are a bit high so be prepared to cough up some $$$$!!!

an original winchester super x model one. bar none. dollar for dollar, when it comes to reselling it 20 years from now, those imports will lay low in comparison to the winchester sxm-1. afterall, the thread wanted to know what the best gun for the dollar was. that should include the dollar at time of future re-sell too, not just present.

[;)] well thanks for the replys the cost really is not the issue its the gun for the price i was asking i have looked at both benneli and the 391 i like the 391 in that area as the cost to gun but havent looked at winchester but will before i buy just wondering no one has mentioned franchi or the benneli made stoeger brand which i guess is a of market of benelli am i correct ? but i really like the 391 s thanks for the replys and any more would be greatly appreaciated , jimmy[:)] 0
