Best gun for BIG GAME!

Been reading the debate over .270 and .30-06 for a deer rifle. Now, I am wondering what people think is the best caliber for larger game...bears, moose, elk, etc...

    What range? I shoot the 45-70 for whitetails and would be perfectly comfortable to carry it for anything else, but range is limited...if I were to buy a gun for longer range, it'd probably by something like a .300 WSM or .338...

    30-06 is big enough for anything in the lower 48.....For the BIG Alaskan Grizzly I'd opt for the .375H&H.........

    As I had to settle on one gun for all, I personally favor the 300 Weatherby myself. It's worked on the big bruin and still can be used for other game.

    .50BMG big enough to take down anything that walks on a single shot.
    Plus it has the range for the standoff mountain shots.

    Moose are routinely taken with 6.5x55 in Europe, so I would agree with Captn. Kirk, .30-06 and .375 H&H.

    mine are 30-06 or 300 win mag.

    Modern cartridge = 7mm Rem Mag (165 grain)
    Nostalgic cartridge = 405 W.C.F. (in an original Winchester Model 1895, it kills at both ends[}:)][:D])

    yep, had lots of luck with that cal. & wouldnt hesitate to blast a cape buffalo or rhino with it either.

    I also agree that the Browning .50 BMG (50 cal Browning Machine Gun) would be the ultimate caliber. You could shoot from mountian top to mountian top....lol.

    I have to say that up here in Canada we have some very large Moose, Elk and big bear. I am yet to see the animal in north america that can stand the punch on my 300 Win. Mag. It is a common enough caliber that ammo is easy to find if you run short on those hunting trips to the back woods. It will also send any of the big game end over end in the heat of the battle! Love my 300 Win. Mag. It speaks with authority!
