Yard Sale Gun Again Help Please

OK, everybody says run the numbers. But..... how do you run the numbers????? Another interesting gun find this week. Must be a lot of garage cleaning. Its an Old Oak Gunsmiths Parts Box.     one way or another ..get it to your local pd and have them run the sn thru the computer....they know what to do once you get there..with luck it will be clean

    I don't get all the paranoia about a handgun in a box in a garage sale.
    Only about one in a jillion handguns manufactured have been used in murders and most of those have been buried or tossed in the lake. The rest probably weren't just dropped in a shoe box and put under the bench in the garage.

    If you were to walk into a police station with a box containing a hack saw, butcher knife, can of rat poison, chain saw, a couple rocks, hank of rope and a $39 pistol,- dump it on the desk and ask him to check and see if any it had been used in a murder he'd probably throw you out or send you to the funny farm.

    I think that the Kennedys, Schumers, Bradleys, Bradys, Clintons and others have done a fair job of brainwashing a lot of people. Keep the pistol, shoot it, take it to the range, sell it, - it's not contraband!

    ok, so people say dont have the numbers checked, if it were me i would contact the person you bought the stuff from and ask if he knew it was in there, if he did then fine but shame on him leavin it where a kid could get a hold of it, if he didnt then it will not pop up stolen at a later date

    look guys, this is an expert room. lets give expert advice, not opinions. the man is asking what to do. so, im going to tell him what to do and repeat my first post. mark42, " have your friend next door unload it for you. then, try to contact the guy you bought the box from, (the box with the junk in it) and ask him if he ever owned a gun. if he says no, walk away and say thank you. if you cant find him for whatever reason, put the gun in a shoe box, tape it closed, take the gun to a gun dealer or the p.d. and tell them the story. if you are not of legal age, give it to an adult and go with an adult. tell them you technically bought it, but their wasnt a batf transfer done, and you just want to know if the gun legally belongs to someone and if they are looking for it.(in others words, ask the cops, "was this gun reported missing or stolen?") let them do a check. if it comes up clean, tell them you are going to sell it thru proper means at a gun dealer. let the cops know the dealer you plan to sell it thru as a courtesy. 'cops done like guns floating around without background papers on it.' bring it to a gun dealer and consign it. once the gun is in the dealers hands, it will become legal with all new paperwork. or....advertise it on gunbroker.com, and get nailed a selling fee and make even less than you would if you just sold it to a gun dealer outright." there....thats my advice. if you have any other questions, call me at my home 1-203-888-9350. if im serious enough to put my phone number on the web to help you, i hope youll recognize how confident i feel my legal and proper my advice is. and again, i say, if you are not a legal adult, do this with a bonified honest adult florida citizen. i did my part. now its up to you.

    atf, we are awake. at least i am. youre just not looking at the fact that this a continuation of a previuos thread a few days back. the box you are refering to is his second find. his first paragraph is still asking what to do with post #1.

    This is about a Charter Arms Undercover 38 revolver. It was in a box of junk.
