UnderWood M1 Carbine Value???
Hi need help with value for this rifle , top of receiver is marked U.S. CARBINE
CAL.30 M1
Behind the rear sight is
Underwood ser number 14217xx
barrel is marked Underwood 5-43 with what looks like a flaming bomb
safety is push button in front of trigger guard
mag release is push button just in front of safety
rear sight is drove tail into reciver and is a simple 2 postion flip up peep, the top of the bolt is flat (kind of)
stock is marked on the right side with 6 letters inside of a box 1st letter is a U next 2 are not clear, bottom 3 are GHD, there is a P inside of a circle on the pistol grip , condition of stock - it has lots of small dings but no major cracks ,
have 4- 15 round mags for it also , I test fired this rifle today and it worked just fine
I know without pictures its hard to give a value but if someone could give a ball park value would help ,, Thanks in advance for your time

Never seen ANY of the Original Non-Import G.I. M1's sell for less than $500, unless they were beyond help and then they "part" them out for way more than that. The Blue Book of Gun Values says a 100% Underwood would be worth $850. I have seen some being advertised for $1,000 and more, but have no idea if they sold for that or close to it.
Do a Search on AA and Gunbroker for completed items and see what you can find that is similar......and if it sold and for how much. That would be the best way to find out a "real" price. Good Luck! Hope this helped a little.

Everything you noted sounds correct for an original Underwood. To be sure, I'd need a lot more information & a detailed description of all parts. It's really impossible to do that over a forum. The first book I grab when evaluating carbines is an inexpensive paperback: US M1 Carbines Wartime Production by Craig Riesch; I recommend that you buy a copy & figure out exactly what you have.
I think that you will have a difficult time finding a similar gun on the online auctions for price comparison; all-original carbines are extremely scarce. In 99% or better condition an all-original Underwood might sell for as much as $1,200.

Also, on original Carbines there is no bayonet lug. Your saftey and rear sight are correct.Good Luck-Bob

I may have paid too much as I do on occasion when smitten with something, but I bought an early (first contract) and 100% correct Inland for $1400 about six years ago. I was always able to get a blanket 10% off all my purchases with them except for this one. They remained firm on it. I wish I had kept it now. They allowed me to return it later for full value towards another purchase. I only have a very nice rearsenalized Winchester now that I bought some time later, and it is very nice as well as a being a great shooter.
I would think your Underwood in similar condition would command a similar price as the Inland I had. I would certainly defer to the opinion of Mr. Myers regarding the U.S. M1 Carbine since he is obviously a frequent poster regarding these and sems to have a firm command on this topic. I also have the book he referred to and will also concur that you would be doing yourself a favor investing the little it costs to research your possesion. It is a good quick study on the topic.0 -
