    richbug..... Filing off the end of the hammer spring tension screw is a trick some people use to do action jobs on Smith's. It helps to lessen the needed pull on the trigger, but it also weakens the strike of the hammer.

    You will likely need to replace the screw.
    You can get a new one from Smith & Wesson or Numrich guns parts corp.
    I think Smith's web site is <www.smith&wesson.com>.

    You can order on line from Numrich at <www.e-GunParts.com>.Their # is (845)679-2417 They do not have a toll free order number. That part, I believe, is called the strain screw.

    Thanks laredo, I knew that was a trick people used, I was just trying to isolate the problem before I order the part from numrich. I don't mind buying a $2 part, but the $10 shipping Always kills me. I try to put together a decent order before I place an order.

    You'd probably do a little better to order the screw from the parts section in the back of the Brownell's catalog and have them send it to you U.S. mail. Free phone call, price of the screw, plus first class postage.
