30-06 . . this is it . . I need your help!

Okay all, it's come down to this. I've been looking for a 30-06 for awile now, and I just can't get past my desire to buy the Browning BUT . .

here are the other contenders -

Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle LSS. I like the Rem, but I don't like the fact that they are shutting down alot of factories here and outsourcing some of thier production. Plus, I think thier quality is starting to go downhill a bit.

Ruger Model 77 Mark II Sporter. Like the fact that they are still an all-US company - I'd like to support these guys. Plus, it's a great looking rifle with the Stainless barrel and Laminated stock. Never owned a Ruger though, and not sure how good a gun it is. Definately the least expensive of the bunch.

Of course the Browning Eclipse Hunter BOSS. Gorgeous gun. Again though, not a US company and alot of thier stuff is made in Japan now. I don't know if this model is Belgian or not . . I'd like to know for sure before I place the order. You guys know about this?? The most expensive of the bunch as well, but so darn pretty . . .

So, what do you all think? I'm placing the order tomorrow.

    Really I think they are all good and your concerns are just. If you have looked at them first hand you will know the one you like the best. 30-06 is a good cal. too. Lots of choices on ammo.

    If you're looking for a good U.S.-made rifle, you might want to consider a Savage. Reasonable price, and excellent out-of-the-box accuracy:

    The Browning is MADE IN JAPAN you can see it stamped on the barrel when you look at one.

    I'm not fussy about where it's made IF it's quality piece (that takes Remington out of consideration). Savage has a good rep for accuracy, and lends itself to easy conversion to other cartridges. TC Encore is a quality piece, that is also easy to convert, but is a single shot. CZ is your basic Mauser style, they somtimes need a couple of minor tweeks (2 minute burr removal kind of thing), but come with a great trigger (somthing none of the others have).
    The BOSS is a gimmick for the gunwriters to play with, not somthing you need.
    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    In my opinion, the Browning would be the last choice. The Remington has a nice easily adjusted trigger and generally they shoot pretty good. The Rugers are good solid guns, generally shoot reasonably well, and a good value for the money. The triggers are iffy, you may get a good one or not. The Savages are generally great shooters, but you take your chances on their triggers also. They can be adjusted somewhat though. Ruger claims their's is, it is really not. Concerning the Savages, I would spend a little extra and get a better grade than the Wally World specials. Just my two cents worth, Good Luck on whichever you decide to buy.

    Remington is closing down the Ilion, NY. plant for one month due to economics. Read the article, it is not plants. Remington is no different than a multitude of other American companies when it comes to outsourcing. Take a look at the automotive manufacturing sector, you'll really be in for a shock!

    Browning firearms have been manufactured in either Belgium or Japan for decades. The company is now owned by: BROWNING INTERNATIONAL S.A. c 2003 - Parc industriel des Hauts-Sarts, 3?me Avenue, 25, B-4040, HERSTAL, BELGIUM

    For the money, I don't think that you can go wrong with Remington, especially when set up in a good, real wood stock. I am not a Ruger fan at all so I won't go there. Browning firearms have always been a fine investment of cash, good looking and functional. I also agree with Xracer, that the Savage is probably the best buy, although it is certainly one of the ugliest rifles that I have seen. They have achieved a good reputation for function and accuracy as well as having developed an ear for what it's buyer base wants in a rifle. They listen to what we say and attempt to put it into their manufacturing. Best example is their trigger.

    The last thought I will put forward is that if you are truly enamored with the Browning, you should buy it. There is nothing worse than the regrets from not getting what you really desire.

    Don't take offense at the above, it's not meant that way.

    Remingtons quality & their warranty has gone down hill over the years, 2 new remington 870 supermags both with feeding issues NIB guns?? slow turn around when guns are sent back :/
    the CZ if its a mauser98 copy would be a superior design over most, like the old Interarms MarkX a good shooting rifle.
    Ruger = Boycotting over political veiws <---i wont support them.
    Savage = junk walmart stuff yuck, my neighbor bought one, again yuck.
    Browning although a Jap made gun shows better fit & finish at least on the ones i looked at then most US made guns, keep in mind the Jap made weatherby rifles had a super fit & finish. i have a browning 10ga BPS engraved, it has super fit & finish and is a Jap made gun.
    I just bought a winchester 70 classic and have yet to shoot it, fit & finish are ok on it, my dad has a 670 for years in 30-06, a cheapo gun that hold 3 shots around an inch at 200yds on a calm day. i think it was a 200 dollar, X Pa state police model, fit & finish decent.

    I have to go with the savage myself not only accurate,AMERICAN MADE,and they have the new accu-trigger which i think is great![;)]

    I have also heard good things regarding the Savage as an inexpensive and very accurate rifle.

    I don't know about the .30-06', but I have a friend who has a .25-06' and likes it alot...or it could be a .22-250? Anyway. He is a critic and likes his a great deal although he has other guns that are much more expensive. My point is; he didn't buy the Savage for the sake of the price alone!

    I don't follow your logic of boycotting an American owned company because of their "political views" yet you buy Jap made guns. Have you examined the "political views" of the Japs that you support?
