AR15 24 inch barrel accuracy
Okay I have a 16inch colt upper that shoots dandy, It works great out to 300 yards. I have killed many deer with this rifle. I have seen some 24inch target uppers here on gunbroker.com. and am considering purchasing one. What will I gain, by purchasing a 24 inch free float upper? Will I get more distance? Or is
the longer barrel just more accurate? I have never owned a long barrel AR..and want some honest feedback...thanks Ted

Ted,
In general terms, you will gain:
- less noise since the muzzle is further away from your face.
- more velocity, 6 more inches of barrel.
- more energy from the higher velocity.
- longer sight radius when using open sights. May not be important if you use a scope or have younger eyes, but as you get older it can make a difference. Ask a Palma shooter. Accuracy can be enhanced from a longer barrel due to the increase in sight radius but a longer barrel does not automatically just get you more accuracy.

Hi guys, just checking out the scenery, and wound up learning something. My mother always says you learn something new everyday even Sunday. Fort Knox really did well with this piece. I had a novice understanding of this stability thing but, now i see the light.
