SCOPE SUNSHADES
I WANT SOME HELP REGARDING SUNSHADES. I BELIEVE I UNDERSTAND WHY THE SUNSHADES ARE HELPFUL DURING CERTAIN DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS. BUT, SHOULD THE SUNSHADES BE REMOVED DURING LOW LIGHT HUNTING CONDITIONS, SUCH AS EARLY MORNING AND LATE EVENING? ARE YOU FURTHER RESTRICTING LIGHT TO THE OBJECTIVE LENSE DURING THESE LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS BY LEAVING THE SUNSHADE ON THE SCOPE[?][?][?]

You are restricting light to the objective by making it travel down a tube to get there and limiting the exposure of the objective to light. Since the light that is critical is the light reflected off the object you want to view and not the ambient light, leaving the sunshade on will not make much difference in most cases. You only really need it if the sun is at a relatively low angle to the objective. Probably not worth the extra length and bulk for hunting in most cases. more of a BR/Varminting thing.

I have had sunshades for my various varmit riflescopes and I can honestly say that they help in certian circiumstances, but that isn't very often. If the sun it directly downrange it doesn't help... I think a person gets as much mirage off a hot gun barrel than they do extra light caused by no sunshade.
Experiment first with paper or something cupped up and placed over the scope and see if you think it will yield the results you're after. If so, then get 'em. Remember to check to see if your scope has threads for the sunshade, otherwise you'll need to use a snap-on ARD (anti-reflection device).

BTW, I read your line at the bottom about your caps and hand usage... I think many of us would find it easier to read with NO CAPS than all caps. I have a hard time breaking the words into sentences in all caps. Suit yourself, just a thought...0 -
sunshades reduce glare on the lens from overhead light. Mirage CAN NOT be taken out of the equation. If you are shooting on a bright day,..no matter what temp,..you WILL have mirage. The higher the magnification,..the more the mirage.
A mirage tube or even a mirage sheet which is velcro'd to the barrel will reduce ONLY the barrel heat,..the ambient mirage still exists.
In a bright situation,..the sunshade makes a differnece,..but at night TAKE IT OFF.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
