94 winchester?

Can anyone tell me what the bent piece of metal is that is located under the left cartridge guide on a 70s model 94 44mag?
It has a slot in it that the ejector fits in between and it located right under the barrel chamber.
It is retained by the same screw that hold the left cartridge gude on.
I dont see this same piece on any other 94 other than the 44 mag.
I cant tell what its function is.

    The 44 Mag has a different ejector than the other 94's

    This piece of metal doesnt appear to have anything to do with the ejector?
    it never touches the shell once it is in the chamber.
    I cant tell what it does during the lever cycle but it is stationary .
    I do see that the ejector is differnt also under the bolt.
    I wonder why this is ?

    I think you are talking about the carrier spring. It helps the carrier chamber the cartridge.

    No its not the carrier spring.
    This piece is retained underneath the cartridge guide and
    uses the same screw,
    comes froward underneath the gude and turns out under the barrel chamber and bolt face.
    I cant find a reference for it in any of my winchester books.

    I just looked in my Numrich cat. and it shows a piece of metal next ot the left cartride guide in the exploed view. It is part # 20. It has a special notation for a 44 mag. It is called a cartride stop.
    I believe that this is a very stiff spring, probably with a flat on the end of it, which moves out of the way when you cycle the action and allows the next cartride in the magazine to come out and locate on the carrier. It acts like a gate keeper, allowing only one cartridge out of the magazine at a time.

    Very good, that sounds like what it may be!
    I checked on thier web page and it wasnt listed and I did have thier book for a reference.
    I wonder why the 44 would need such a piece ?.
    I understand that the cartirdge stop on the 94 s is the tit on
    lever link that allows one cartrdge at a time when cycled.
    I also checked the Brownells book for it but nothing there either.

    PROBABLY NEEDED BECAUSE THE .44 MAG IS SO MUCH SHORTER THAN THE .30/30.

    Taperloc is correct. Its a cartridge stop Win. part #22744 and is currently obsolete. If it ever breaks check with Win. as they may have a conversion for it.[:)]
