i have a hawes "Western Sixshooter" that i inherited from my grandfather when he passed on.

the barrel is 51/2 inches long (from front of cylinder to muzzle) and is approx 5 inches high.

i know that these revolvers were made in a number of differant varrients( sizes)
but i do not know if this is a large frame or a small frame?

anyone able to help?




also, my gramps managed to kill almost all the rifleing! so i am going to have the barrel relined. anyone know what a good twist is for a good target/plinker?

    The Hawes single actions I''m familiar with were made by Sauer, in what was then West Germany,( circa 1970's ).
    I've never run across a modern ( post black powder ) .22 rimfire with a shot out barrel, let alone a Sauer.
    Less your Grandfather ran 200,00 - 300,00 rounds throught it, or got saltwater down the barrel can't see how he managed to "kill almost all the rifleing"
    Try a healthy dose of elbow grease with a good lead solvent , with a BRASS bore brush and/or a lewis lead remover before you send it out to be relined.

    Hawes sold at least two different basic SAA designs, a full size steel frame gun and a Colt Scout size alloy frame gun. The full size steel frame gun is a well built quality gun, but the alloy frame Scout clone isn't nearly as well made. The frame is of an unknown alloy (pot-metal?), the barrel is alloy lined with steel insert; the finish is thin and easily worn. If your .22 has a barrel liner, and a magnet ignores the frame, you have the cheapie. I wouldn't pay to have a liner installed; spend the money on a better quality gun.
