Love my .444

The .444 is a very under-rated cartridge in my opinion. They are a nice balance of power and light recoil. I used to have a Marlin .444 also, and only took one deer with it I think, but it certianly did the job.
I think if the 45-70 hadn't been around long before the .444 then the latter cartridge would have had a better chance. The 45-70 is likely more versatile however.
I dunno if I'll replace my .444 or not, but I can certianly understand why you're happy to own one. [:)]

BTW, this topic might get locked since it really didn't "ask the experts" anything...

I had the Marlin outfitter in 444 , took it out last deer season but never got to use it on any thing other than paper [:(] anyway I sold it because of it being so darn loud , it will be the last ported gun I own [xx(] I should add that over all the gun was nice , just didn't like the ported barrel , I think the longer barrel model is the way to go

Hey Slider, I am going to hunt for the first time this year with a new barrel on my 14 inch Thompson Contender -a .444Marlin. Deer season starts next week and I will be carrying it. It shoots a 5 shot cluster at 50 yards about 1.5 inches.
Can't wait and congrats on the 7-pt.
