1100 Remington

I have an 1100 remington 12 ga. Is the ejector built on the barrell and can it be replaced ?

    I have a 1100 that is a 3in mag this gun will not eject the shells espesially steel I've welded a bead on the ejector and dressed it down I do have some high powered lead this gun will function with has anyone ever shortened the spring in the stock of the gun to make this gun operate with lighter loads or is this possible?

    The 1100 mag only has one gas port, it is very critical to keep it clean. I use to use pipe cleaners to keep it clean. When I use to shoot steel, I'd clean the port after shooting 2-4 boxes. From what I remember about standard steel loads, they always left a lot of unburnt powder and other residue in the barrel. My 1100 would only eject the 1 3/8s load. One of the reasons I got a new duck gun. Regards Dave

    O.W. has it right. 1100's like to be clean, especially the gas port.You may want to replace the o-ring and gas piston & seal if it's had alot of use. Pull the trigger group out and flush it and the receiver with solvent,blow it out,and oil it up.Bits of unburned powder and plastic get stuck back in there and gum things up. You didn't say if you are shooting 3" or 2.75" shells.2.75 won't eject from a 3" barrel because it only has 1 gas port instead of 2 for the 2.75".

    The post are correct about keeping the port clean. I once had a similar problem with an 1100.
    Substituted another barrel and that fixed the problem.
    Seems years of neglect had eroded the port and the barrel mating. A new O ring would not solve the problem. Told the fellow he could try to mig a new surface, but he opted for the easy way and just replaced the barrel.

    TAKE A DRILL BIT AND OPEN THE SINGLE GAS PORT. HELPS A BUNCH.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    Thanks for the info to answer a few questions I have cleaned the gun from top to bottom and yes I've tried to shoot just 3 in shells through it the only shells I can get to operate in the gun are 3in 1and 7/8s shells with maximum dram equiv. I have told the customer that these guns are notorious for this thats why the 1187 came along. Thanks again Bill

    If this is an older 1100 mag, pre 1987 or so, the gas port was sized for 3in. lead loads, at that time if i remember right there was 1 5/8, 1 7/8 and 2 oz. loads. When they came out with steel shot and made it mandatory for water fowl, Remington increased the size of the single gas port. 3 in steel just doesn't have the power to cycle some of the older 1100 mags. Duckhunter was on target to increase the port size, if you are sure the gas seals and oring are good and the port is clear. Be careful if it's to large it slams the bolt into the back of the reciever. One other thing, have you removed the butt stock, and examined and cleaned the spring and the inside of the metal tube. It catches a lot of water when hunting in the rain and it may be a little rusty in there. Regards Dave
