243 carbine or 243 win. ?
i'm new to rifles and am looking to buy a rem. model 788 243 whats the diferance between a 243 carbine and a 243 win.? thanks for the help

There is no caliber called the ".243 Carbine". 788's were made with 2 different barrel lengths, one being 18.5"....the carbine and the other being 22" or 24" ...rifle. Both were chambered in .243 WInchester. GHD 0 -

Generally speaking, rifles tend to be slightly more accurate than carbines. Also, higher velocities can be obtained from rifles.
The advantage of a carbine is lighter weight and easier to move around in tight places, such as a small deer blind or pickup cab.

I LOVE 788's !!!
Fantastic choice! I've had several in different calibers including 243 carbines and rifles. Everyone I have owned shot 1/2" groups. The 243 carbine shot about the best, but carbines sometimes have an advantadge over rifles in the accuracy department due to different vibration characteristics. A short stiff barrel has a more uniform and minimized vibration pattern hence immensely greater accuracy. The drawback is that you lose a minimal velocity over the 22" barrel. If you handload I strongly suggest that you do not load maximum loads as listed in your handbooks. Otherwise you'll have the HELLA muzzleblast! It'll look like a stinking flamethrower!!

My dad has a 788 in the .243, accurate rifle. I believe it's a 22" barrel.
A dead intruder cannot testify against you in a court of law!
If they're still moving, put another round in them!
