How accurate is a new Encore

I was thinking of purchasing a new Encore rifle in .223 for a little papaer shooting and close range P-dog work. How accurate is the Encore out of the box and what mods will I expect to make right off?

    Its not a bad shooting rifle, a bit heavy - however, NEF New England Firearms (Harrington & Richardson) now has the same deal with interchangable barrels for better than half the cost. I picked up a 243 with an extra 50 cal. muzzleloader barrel for just about $200. Extra barrels are about $75. You can get anything from .17 - .450 marlin and anything in between. Enjoy

    Steven, WELCOME TO GB!!! As far as the ENcores go they are pretty accurate rifles but my experience with them is that they need a "break-in" period to settle in! I break barrels in(let's not go there tonite for fear of starting another of the "break it in or just shoot it" posting wars)and have found that it takes 30-40 shots for these rifles to settle down and get great! Some may not take that long. The only problem caliber I have heard of in the Encore has been(and this was hard on GHD...pastor at the church of GHD...25-06) was in barrels chambered for 25-06! Have seen 2 of them that had to be replaced! GHD

    Hi Steven and I welcome you also to GB forum,I have a 223 Encore and I REALLY like it.Mine is SS with a standard barrel and it shoots just as well as most of the bolt guns I've owned.I've never used factory shells as I load all my own and it shoots just about anything I put in it.Good luck on your purchase,Bob.
