WILL A 44 RUSSIAN FIRE IN A 44MAG REVOLVER? IS THERE ANY ADVANTAGE OVER A 44 SPECIAL LIKE PRICE OR ACCURICY? THANKS

The advantage to the russian is that in greatly reduced loads such as CAS loads there will be more consistancy and less eratic ignition due to the smaller confinees of the case(less space for the small amount of powder to move arround in). Also the shorter case will give quicker extraction and less chance of hanging up.

The .44 Russian, in old guns designed for it, was known for accuracy. As far as price, unless you reload (Starline brass or cut down .44 Spl cases)I don't think there would be any price advantage. Just my oopinion. Emery

I agree with what has been said so far but would add a point about accuracy. A major reason why the 44 Russian made such a big accuracy improvement over the earlier 44 American cartridge was making bullet the same diameter immediately in front and behind the front of the shell mouth. This means that the revolver cylinder bores each have a visible step where the mouth of the brass would end. 44Spec and 44Mag cylinders will have this step further forward so theoretically there will be a space around which gases could pass as the bullet from a 44R moves forwards through a 44Mag cylinder before it gets to the barrel's forcing cone. I would guess that the length of the normal 44 bullet would mean the gap was sealed as the front of the bullet from a 44R round reached the step in the cylinder bore in a 44Mag before much gas escaped. The problem would be more likely if you tried 44R gallery rounds with a spherical bullet in a 44Mag gun. 0 -
The usual more practical alternative to .44 Mag is .44 Special which is readily available. 0
