Although the poly-chokes have loss favor with the majority of hunters, they actually work pretty well.
If you are going to shoot it, you might want to try it out first. Some gunsmiths are capable of threading the barrel for the screw-in chokes, but why go to the expense.
If you are going to sell it, the expense of barrel replacement will not garner enough to justify. Sell it as is.
JMHO.

i don't plan to sell it. it's just a collector now what i want is to make it a plane barrel with a beaded sight i may shoot skeet with it and get a slug barrel for it but it probally will not see a box of shells in 5 years 0 -
IF YOU HAVE A GUNSMITH JUST CUT THE POLY OFF YOU WILL HAVE A CYLINDER CHOKE (NO CHOKE) YOU MAY BE ABLE TO HAVE CHOKE TUBES INSTALLED. SOME BROWNING BARRELS HAVE VERY THIN WALLS AND THIS MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE. 0 -
before anyone goes chopping and cutting, hold on! first, you said a few things that make my alarms go off. 1. you said it was a collector. ok, if so, what are you cutting it for? the minute you cut it, you will destroy it. most smiths cut the bbl back to give the gun its original length with the polychoke on. if the polychoke was put on at the factory, it has value, for it is installed to correct browning bbl lengths. i/e: 26 1/2", 27 3/8", 29 7/8", etc...look back near the bbl i.d. area and tell us if you see any choke marks. i/e: (*, **-. or **, or **S,)if not, the bbl was fitted with the choke at the factory. if it has choke marks, the gun was fitted with the choke later. 2. besides, the polychoke is a superb item! it gives you the ability to change chokes instantly without wrenches. modern screw ins cant even do that. 3. and if all you want to do is shoot it one box in 5 years, why waste the time and money cutting it off! it will NOT go up in value with the poly off. collectors will see the scars and shy away. best to leave it alone, twist that polychoke to cyl and shoot skeet with it and enjoy it. heck. sell the bbl and put another one on before you cut it. some people like polys! i do.
