Is this possible??

A buddy told me he was shooting a Model 700 Remington in 7MM Magnum with reloads.Following a shot which seemed very loud he looked down and the firing pin on the 700 was sticking out the end of the bolt about 2 inches.

He bumped it with his hand and it retracted into the bolt.

Could this happen and what safety issues are involved.

  I'd be down to my local Gunsmiths Shop as fast as I could for an analisis of the problem and followup with a letter to Remington with the assessment...........
