Parker Brothers Shotgun 2 BL

Here are the number/letters on the gun barrels of the subject shotgun. There is a "T" (grade?), a big "5", little "4" (like 5 to the 4th power), a very small "J" above and to the right of the "T", and what appears to be the number "613" (the 6 and 3 are clear but the 1 is hard to distingush). The butt plate is made of steel and is inlaid into the stock on top - it comes to a point; like an arrowhead. Can someone break the code on these letters/numbers??

    I bought the gun at auction for $1500. It is a 10 gauge, Damascus barrels (Twist), serial number 41567. The gun graded out (according to the auctioner as "very good to excellent". My questions are: Is it worth $1500? Can it be shot? How old is it? Parker Brothers have suspened their research letter program.

    The letter "T" circled is the grade or as Parker referred to the gun as the "Quality". This was the lowest grade manufactured during the
    mid 1880's but still window stickered for a whopping $55.00. The "U"
    Quality was the same gun but had a straight stock. The 5 4 is the weight of the barrels (Usually the second number is underlined)
    less the splinter forend. Think 5 lbs-4 oz. I am not sure what the (j)
    means. Perhaps the the last name of the parker barrel manufacturer.
    The 613 does not compute but there should be the serial number of the gun stamped on the side of the locking lug. On the bottom of the locking lug will be the frame size. The steel butt plate is correct and will be serialized to the gun. Hope this helps slightly. 101 Forgot that I had a "T" and pulled it out for review. The (j) per my notes indicated (jug choked) whatever that means-not the last initial of the barrel maker. You may also find a + on one side of the barrel-this indicates a tighter constriction of the choke. Excuse my original

    Thank you so much for the info....it is beginning to make sense to me now. I think I paid to much ($1500). However, it will look real good over my fireplace. I will fire my 2 Brl, Iver Johnson, 20 gauge, Hercules grade. I am having fun with this and I thank you very much, again, for helping me. Yes, I don't know much - YET!

    You are welcome. No expert but just been collecting/gathering these
    guns for over forty years. If the gun pleases you, you did not pay too much. Most of my arm purchases have been impulse buys and yes, I have made mistakes. Enjoy. 101
