I'm wandering what one of these is worth new or even in average condition. Are they made anymore?

They haven't made them since 1940. Value depends on condition, of course. I see nice ones for $450 or so.

Was it's original purpose for a deer rifle?

An EXCELLENT deer rifle!
I call mine the pencil barrel!
But I'm going to sell it soon, I can't use it here in MA anymore.
And I have others for hunting out of state.
